2024 Harvest Update: Fox Run Vineyards | Penn Yan, New York
Fox Run Vineyards owner Scott Osborn sent this short-but-glowing 2024 harvest update on October 16:
What can I say? It’s the best harvest since I’ve been here. The season started out rainy, but by July, everything began to dry out, and things started looking up. John Kaiser, our vineyard manager, would update us weekly with a ‘no disease out there’ report. It never got above ninety degrees, and there was a consistent breeze that helped the clusters dry out in the morning.
As harvest approached, we all kept our fingers crossed. As you know, we’re in the Finger Lakes, and the weather can change from good to bad in ten minutes. We started picking pinot for rosé on September 11 and chardonnay on the 17. It was absolutely the best chardonnay we’ve ever harvested. Picking went smoothly, thanks to our friend Doug Miles from Miles Wine Cellars and their picker. We finished up on October 7, bringing in our cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon.
So, look forward to some great wines from the 2024 vintage.
