Shiny objects can be distracting. Our society is always on the lookout for what’s new or different. I’m as guilty of this as anyone.
You’ll never hear me suggest that riesling is the be-all-end-all in the Finger Lakes. “Signature varieties” are bullshit and hinder a region’s growth. But, in a region increasingly getting attention for and talking about hybrid-based wines, skin-contact wines, natural wines, and [INSERT MOST ANY OTHER TRENDY WINE] wines, sometimes it’s important to be reminded what the region has always done well: riesling.
