This red blends starts out a bit quiet, but on days two and three it shines

Buttonwood Grove Winery 2020 Marnie Ann ($40*) is a blend of 34% cabernet franc, 33% merlot, and 33% cabernet sauvignon, aged for 15 months in what tastes like mostly new oak.
When first opened and poured, the nose is surprisingly tight and quiet — some toasty oak and some vanilla with some plum beneath. That was really it. But open on the counter for a couple of days, it really opened up with the fruit stepping forward; more plum, but also blackberry, cherry along with some subtle notes of licorice and savory herbs.
The medium-bodied palate showed a similar transformation, but it was always a bit more giving. There is a definite oak footprint here in the form of vanilla and roasted, candied nuts, but also deep, dark fruits with an earthy edge. The finish is medium-long with a distinct coffee note.
The tannins are relatively light, bringing just a little grip at the periphery, but I think this wine will benefit from more time in the bottle.
