Today’s “Drink This” is completely different from yesterday’s — even if it’s made in the same region from the same grape. Both are delicious. Just differently so.
Fox Run Vineyards 2022 Cabernet Franc ($25*) is punchy and fresh, with bright aromas of just-crushed red raspberries, strawberries, and a little red plum. With a bit of air, a pretty layer of herbes de Provence emerges too, bringing some complexity and variety correctness.
Medium-bodied with a lot of crunchy red fruits — mostly fresh bramble berries and a little plum skin — the palate is driven by all that fruit character with savory, herbal notes at the periphery. The fruity-savory balance is exactly what cabernet franc lovers want, in a juicy, fresh package. The tannins are soft so that fresh acidity provides the framework.
This is a style that the Finger Lakes region does very well. It can take a chill in the summer and would be a great Thanksgiving wine too. At $25, I think it represents a solid value.

Nice! I’m excited to try some 2022 Cab Francs from FLX. The vintage conditions were excellent.
