My wine of the weekend: Bloomer Creek Vineyard 2010 Auten Vineyard First Harvest Dry Riesling
Plus a "From the Archives" from 2012 that talks about Bloomer Creek's 2010 wines
I have a bit of a problem: I have at least a couple of cases worth of moderately aged Finger Lakes riesling. That may not seem like a problem, but it is — mostly because I don’t have many people to drink them with because as much as my wife loves young Finger Lakes riesling, she doesn’t usually care for it as it ages. She likes acid and primary, bright fruit.
Most of the wines that I have are from 2005-2010, back when I had significantly more disposable income. My son was born in 2007, and then his sister was born in 2011 — so you can guess when I stopped by as much wine.
Anyway, for whatever reason, I decided to chill and open this bottle from Bloomer Creek over the weekend. I have a small handful of Bloomer Creek wines from that era and went with the 2010 over the 2009s because I remember 2010 being a riper year that maybe wouldn’t be as built for long-term aging.
