The Cork Report Tasting Table for November 17, 2023 – White Wine Catch-Up
Covering wines from Afton Mountain, Aurora, Bedell, Buttonwood Grove, Fjord, Good Harbor, Heron Hill, Horton, Idol Ridge, Knapp, Linganore, Six Eighty, South Shore, and Thirsty Owl.
Originally I was going to do one monster tasting table post to catch up on everything I tasted but didn’t write about over the summer — until I realized just how many wines that would be in a single post. So, I’ve decided to break it up into two or three posts over the next week.
As always, these are short, mostly unedited reviews of wines that I’ve tasted recently — more or less straight from my notebook.
All wines were tasted over the course of 2-5 days, depending.
Afton Mountain Vineyards 2022 Albariño ($32*)
Monticello AVA (Virginia)
Peach-forward on the nose with a bit of apricot, with a nice dose of floral aroma and a subtle sea breeze minerality in the background. The palate tastes a little caramelized in its peach and citrus flavors. Less saline. Ripe fruit, but lower acidity leads to softer edges. 87pts.
