Here are short, mostly unedited reviews of wines that I’ve tasted recently that aren’t going into the upcoming rosé buying guide or the “best of” list I’m working on for East Coast pet nats. As always, these notes are more or less straight from my notebook.
All wines were tasted over the course of 2-5 days depending.
American Wine Project 2020 “Antipodes” Frontenac Gris ($25*)
Minnesota
Made a whole cluster, ramato style, this frontenac gris has a surprising and complex nose of caramelized/grilled citrus, strawberry, cotton candy and chocolate. More tannic than you might expect, the fuller-bodied (14.7% abv) palate oozes with more caramelized fruits, strawberries, marshmallows, and cocoa powder. Weird. Wild. Fun. 87pts.
