Wine of the Week: Damiani Wine Cellars NV Bollicine
June 19, 2025: This $20 mostly-cayuga white sparkler is better than quite a few of the sparklers I taste for twice the price

No long introduction this week—this is just a delicious, affordable sparkling wine that I think just about anyone will enjoy.
Damiani Wine Cellars NV Bollicine ($20*) is a blend of 91% cayuga, 6% pinot noir, and 3% chardonnay made using the transfer method. It’s the palest of coppery pink color in the glass and offers citrus and wild strawberry aromas with a lightly toasty, yeasty nuance.
Lighter-bodied, the palate starts with bright citrus and citrus peel flavors backed by just a little of that strawberry character and a yeasty note that brings more complexity than you’d expect for $20. The carbonation is soft, combining with deftly balanced acidity for a lively, citrusy feel.
Did I mention it’s $20? It is, in fact, $20, and over-delivers for that price.
