Another week tasting some terrific rosé–and another week where a 100% blaufränkisch rose to the top.
Dr. Konstantin Frank 2024 Dry Rosé of Blaufränkisch ($20*) is fruity at first, with strawberry, red raspberry, and a little cherry aromas that lead into nice layers of citrus, flowers, and fresh, cilantro-like herbs that bring nice complexity and additional freshness. Medium-lighter bodied with nice flavor intensity, the palate brings more red berries, subtle spice, and citrusy acidity. It’s both plump and juicy with a little watermelon on a long, fresh finish.
Only available to the winery’s wine club right now, it may or may not make it to the website and tasting room. If you’re already in their club, consider yourself lucky. If you’re not, you may want to join just to get this one. Especially at $20 in a category that continues to get more expensive.
