One of the things that makes East Coast cabernet franc—and New York, in particular—so compelling is just how versatile it can be. Last week, I highlighted a wine with surprising power from the 2022 vintage.
This week, I want to tell you about a wine from the same vintage that leans into the fresh and the juicy instead.
Living Roots Wine & Co. 2022 Cabernet Franc ($34*) pops with bright red fruit aromas—mostly raspberry and strawberry—with a grind of fresh black pepper and savory herbs beneath. This is classic cool-climate cab franc on the nose. The light-to-medium-bodied palate is crunchy and fresh, balancing concentrated red fruit flavors and layers of spice and dried herbs. Framed by acidity rather than tannins, this one is best with a light chill—and probably with grilled summer fare.
